Belgian comic book author and illustrator Brecht Evens was born in 1986. He studied illustration at Sint-Lucas Gent, Belgium, and now lives in Paris. He does illustration work and paintings, but the lion’s share of his time is spent writing and drawing graphic novels. The Wrong Place (2009), a departure from the more typical comic art of his earlier books, won awards at the Angoulême International Comics Festival and the Haarlem Comic Festival. He followed up with The Making Of (finished in 2011), Panther (2014) and The City of Belgium (2018), which won Jury’s Choice at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. His most recent book, the first volume in a trilogy, came out in 2024, in dutch, as ´De Bondgenoten’ , and in french, as ´Le Roi Méduse’. English, spanish and polish translations are planned, but the hand lettering is proving a bigger challenge than ever.
